Ponder this

Here is an interesting article I found in the Asbury Press. It is in reference to a proposal to have a later start time for high school students, noting that students need more sleep. It is accurately pointed out that if you had a later start time, after school activities would start later and then homework would start later, defeating the purpose of a later start to give kids more sleep. The writer, a school superintendent, says that one possibility would be to have a shorter school day, but that goes against the trend in education.

It's interesting that the article mentions a shorter school day, but not a shorter homework day. Why would we even consider shortening the school day to allow time for homework when we have professional teachers whom we depend upon to teach our children. Wouldn't a shorter homework day make more sense?
